BROWNSBORO DEFEATS BISHOP GORMAN IN OVERTIME, 53-48
Bishop Gorman and Brownsboro decided 32 minutes wasn’t enough to determine a winner in their non-district contest Monday afternoon at Haddad Gymnasium.
Brownsboro outscored Bishop Gorman 6-1 in overtime to take a 53-48 road victory.
Gage Wehrmann broke the tie five seconds into overtime with a runner off the glass to make the score 49-47.
Colby Wood then hit a shot to make the score 51-47.
Brett Petrakian knocked down a free throw with 2:12 led to cut the score to 51-48.
The final points of the game came on a bucket by Aaron Johnson with 1:21 on the clock.
Bishop Gorman led 6-3 early in the contest and took a 10-9 lead after the first quarter with a layup from Dawson Douglas.
Neither team led by more than 3 points in the second quarter as the lead changed hands six times.
Wehrmann had a putback to give Brownsboro a 21-19 lead with eight seconds left, but Sid Cleofe knocked down two free throws to tie the score at 21 at the break.
The third quarter was the Tylor Johnson show as he had 11 points in the frame,
With Bishop Gorman leading 32-28 after a 3-pointer from Miles Minnick, Tylor Johnson had a putback and a dunk to tie the score. After a bucket from Douglas, Tyler Johnson knocked down a shot, and Wood scored with 58 seconds left to give the Bears a 36-34 lead.
Brownsboro led 41-37 with 6:36 left. Tylor Johnson opened the fourth quarter with a steal and dunk before Johnny Petosa and Wood traded 3-pointers.
Bishop Gorman then went on 8-0 run. Minnick and Douglas hit threes, and Petrakian scored on a baseline drive.
Wehrmann and Wood made buckets for Brownsboro to tie the score at 45 with 2:02 to play.
Minnick gave Bishop Gorman the lead with 1:18 remaining before Tylor Johnson knotted the score with a jumper with 1:02 remaining to force overtime.
Johnson finished with 21 points and six rebounds. Wood had 11 points. Aaron Johnson pulled out eight rebounds.
Minnick led Bishop Gorman with 18 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. Cleofe scored 8 points, and Petosa grabbed eight rebounds.
Bishop Gorman was playing without head coach Kevin Murray, who is getting married on Wednesday.
Bishop Gorman (3-2) will play at Big Sandy on Tuesday. Brownsboro (2-0) will play at Sabine on Tuesday.
