Bears' season ends against Crandall Pirates, 77-47

BEARS' SEASON ENDS AGAINST CRANDALL PIRATES, 77-47

EUSTACE — The Brownsboro Bears opened the playoffs with a bi-district game Tuesday night at Eustace?High School, losing to the Crandall Pirates, 77-47. As Gage Wehrmann’s field goal got Brownsboro on the board, Crandall erupted for 11 straight points to take the early 11-2 lead. After both teams exchanged baskets for three minutes, the Pirates led 16-8 with 33 seconds in the first quarter. Noah Ghormley scored five in a row as Crandall led 21-8. The Bears sank a three-pointer at the buzzer and trailed 21-11. With Crandall leading 23-15, Ghormley scored five straight points again and AD Freeman sank a layup as the Pirates built their lead to 30-15 with 4:27 until halftime. Saul Williams had four points in an ensuing Brownsboro 8-2 run as they trailed 32-23 with 1:04. Crandall led 35-23 at the intermission. With the Bears trailing 39-26, Crandall unleashed an 11-0 run and led 50-26 with 3:03 in the third quarter. The lead was trimmed to 50-30 after four points from Wehrmann, but the Pirates kept their space with a three-pointer from Tristan McCollough and a field goal by Czarlinsky for the 55-30 lead with 55 seconds. Williams’ field goal cut the lead to 55-32 after the fourth quarter. When Czarlinsky’s five points extended the Pirate lead to 60-32, Brownsboro dropped four in a row to trail 60-36, but Crandall proved too much and closed the game on a 17-11 stretch for the 77-47 victory, ending the Bears’ season. Gage Wehrmann led the Bears with 12 points. Saul Williams and Colby Wood had eight apiece, Tylor Johnson had seven, Chance King had four and Jacob Fitzgerald had three. The Pirates were led by Noah Ghormley’s 23 points. Also in double digits were Tristan McCollough with 12 points and Ignacio Czarlinsky with 10 points. Brownsboro finishes the year at 12-17 and 4-6 in district play.
