BROWNSBORO CAPTURES 38TH STRAIGHT DISTRICT WIN
BROWNSBORO — The Brownsboro Bears bolted a quick start en route to a 58-44 win over Henderson County rival Athens on Tuesday in a District 14-4A boys basketball game.
It was the Bears' 38th straight league win and Brownsboro Coach Brent Smith's 55th consecutive league win. He previously coached at Troup where he won 17 straight league games.
The Bears led 28-19 at halftime.
Chance King led the Bears (10-10, 2-0) with 19 points, while Tylor Johnson added 11. King had two 3-pointers.
Others scoring for the Bears were Gage Wehrmann (9), Cole Williams (7), Jarrod Hastings (6) and Saul Williams (6).
Cameron Ray led the Hornets (13-10, 0-2) with 24 points. Others scoring for Athens were Rhe'Jhi Sherfield (8), Rowdy Godwin (5), Derek Killingsworth (4) and Aryn Rodriguez (3).
Ray had four 3-pointers with Rodriguez adding one.
Brownsboro won the JV game (50-47), while the Hornets captured the freshmen contest (51-42).
The Bears return to play on Friday at Mabank. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The Hornets are scheduled to play host to Canton, also at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
