BROWNSBORO CLINCHES FOURTH STRAIGHT DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP
Brownsboro 70, Van 47
VAN — The Brownsboro Bears clinched their fourth straight district basketball championship on Friday.
Kenneth Woods, who signed a football scholarship with Tyler Junior College on Wednesday, led the Bears with 31 points en route to a 70-47 victory over the Van Vandals in a District 13-4A contest.
Brownsboro improves to 21-5 overall and 9-0 in league play. Van, which dropped a 48-46 decision to the Bears earlier this season in Brownsboro, falls to 17-13 and 7-2.
“We got off to a good start and played good defense,” said Brownsboro coach Brent Smith. “It is a great feeling to win district. The seniors (Woods, Kevon Thompson, Jared Gailey) have been such great leaders. We had a rough patch in December, but played much better in the new year.”
Thompson, who also signed with TJC on Wednesday for football, and Gailey each scored 10 points.
Zanden Worley led the Vandals with 19 points with Holden Myers tossing in 12 points.
The Bears have won 35 consecutive district games. Smith, who earlier coached at Troup before taking over at Brownsboro, has a personal league streak of 52 straight wins.
Brownsboro plays at Emory Rains on Tuesday, while Van visits Wills Point.
