Brownsboro beats Canton, wins 50th straight district game

BROWNSBORO BEATS CANTON, WINS 50TH STRAIGHT DISTRICT GAME

The Brownsboro Bears improved to 19-5 overall and 7-0 in district play with a 78-52 victory over the Canton Eagles Friday. The Bears held a 30-25 lead at the half. Brownsboro was led in scoring by Kevon Thompson with a game-high 32 points. Kenneth Woods had 25, Jared Gailey had 10, Gage Wehrmann had six and Chance King had five. Canton (11-19, 1-6) was led by Kyler Keller with 10, Kyle Rose-Peterson with eighth, McGwire Martin with seven and Dalton Williams with six. Carter Day and Cooper Smith had five, Cameron Sullivan had four, Jackson Heard had three and Tanner Morgan and Travis Lively had two. The victory gave coach Brent Smith 50 consecutive district wins. In the junior varsity game, Canton won 60-48, while the Bears freshman team won 39-38 in overtime. Brownsboro is scheduled back in action Tuesday against Mabank at Mabank High School. Brownsboro drops game to Canton, 44-37 The final home game for Brownsboro Bearettes coach Fred Griffin saw his team fall 44-37 to the Canton Eaglettes Friday. Brownsboro was outscored, 13-1, in the second quarter as they trailed 20-11 at the break. Brownsboro (17-14, 2-7) was led by Aleaiah Williams with 16 points. Morgan Fulgham had six, A. Smith had four, Christon Downey, Tay Tay Limbrick and Katelyn England had three and Alexis Hambrick had two. Canton was led by Hannah Manry with 15 points. Brownsboro wraps up the season Tuesday in Mabank. The games are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. In the junior varsity game, Brownsboro won 33-31, while the Bearettes freshman team won 25-14. Malakoff beats Frankston The Malakoff Lady Tigers pulled out a 52-42 victory over the Frankston Lady Indians Friday. The Lady Tigers were led by Jalie Dawson with 21 points. Kei Kei Walker had 10, Alliyah Coleman had nine, Nakeya Kelley and Shakera Thompson had four, while Charlsey Stearman and Taliha Dora had two points. Tigers hold on for win over Indians, 50-44 The Malakoff Tigers had a 50-44 victory over the Frankston Indians Friday. Andreas Garrett led the way with 14 points. Kadderious Thomas had nine, Casey Wilson and Klayton Copeland had six, Jake Lee had five, JaQuaylon Hart had four, while Jatarion Walker and RJ Carr had three. Malakoff is scheduled back in action Tuesday against Teague. The Tigers wrap up the regular season at home Friday against Buffalo.
