Van beats Brownsboro in high scoring contest

VAN BEATS BROWNSBORO IN HIGH SCORING CONTEST

The Brownsboro Bears and Van Vandals fought for 48 minutes with Van coming out on top 49-35. The outcome put the Bears at 4-2 overall and 1-1 in district play. Van improved to 7-0 and 3-0 in district play. “Van played good, and their quarterback is the real deal. But our kids got after it too. We gotta keep improving,” said Brownsboro head coach Greg Pearson. The first half scoring for the Vandals were a one yard run by Davonte Johnson and two runs by Garrett Moseley. Moseley also passed to Gus Brewer for a touchdown. Caleb McKinney kicked all four extra points. Scoring for Brownsboro was Kenneth Woods on a short run and a recovered punt block by Austin Loosier. Jonathan Surlet passed to Kevon Thompson for the final td of the half. Luis Suarez kicked one extra point and Surlet hit Chris Simons for a two-point conversion. The score at halftime was 28-21. Van's Johnson scored in the third quarter on a short run. Moseley scored on a long run, and McKinney added the PAT on both. Saul Williams and Woods both galloped for fourth quarter touchdowns. Williams converted a two pointer to make the score 42-35 Van with six minutes to go. Moseley took it upon himself to score again for the Vandals with four minutes to go. McKinney made the PAT to bring the final score to 49-35. Next week Brownsboro travels to Kaufman, and Van hosts Mabank.
