BROWNSBORO WELCOMES BULLARD PANTHERS TO BEAR STADIUM
It’s homecoming week at Brownsboro as the Bears welcome in the Bullard Panthers Friday to Bear Stadium.
The Panthers (0-2) look to pick up their first win of the season following a 24-21 loss to Groesbeck last week.
“They are a good team coming into this game like us trying to get a win,” first-year coach Greg Pearson said.
The Panthers come into the contest as 14-point favorites in the latest Harris Ratings Poll.
The Panthers held a 21-11 lead late in the fourth quarter last week at Groesbeck.
Coach Scott Callaway’s team is led by wide receivers Ty Crayton, Colton Bowman and Dustin Dover, running back Luke Bowman and quarterback Cleet Bowman.
Pearson said if the Bears hope to improve to 2-1, they will need to play smart for the entire game today.
“We need to eliminate the turnovers and missed assignments and continue to play relentless,”
Last week, the Bears lost 49-20 to Spring Hill in Longview. Brownsboro ran 55 plays and had just under 300 yards of offense.
Senior running back Kevon Thompson had 10 carries for 156 yards and one touchdown. It was the second straight game Thompson has rushed for over 100 yards.
Thompson is currently second in the Henderson County area with 346 yards rushing and four touchdowns.
In the loss, the Bears had six turnovers with four fumbles and two interceptions.
Quarterback Jonathan Surlet was 7 of 11 passing for 38 yards. His top target was senior Kenneth Woods with two receptions for 19 yards.
Woods had 13 carries for 47 yards and a one-yard touchdown run last week.
Ashton Williams had four carries for 25 yards, Saul Williams had seven carries for 20 yards, Surlet had eight carries for 11 yards and a touchdown and Logan Porter had one carry for five yards.
Saul Williams, Izik Boykin and Gage Whermann had the other receptions for the Bears.
Pearson said the coaching staff has stressed the importance of staying focused on the game.
“We talked to them about staying focused on the game, and playing well enough to enjoy the activities after we take care of what's most important,” he said.
Brownsboro will wrap up the non-district portion of the schedule next week at Mineola.
