MALAKOFF, KEMP PICKED TO REACH PLAYOFFS

The prognosticators at Friday Night Football Texas are right on track with a competitor among Henderson?County football teams. The Malakoff Tigers and Kemp Yellowjackets are the only county teams picked to make the playoffs. In District 9-3A, Division I, the defending district champion Malakoff Tigers are picked to finish second behind Teague in district play. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine has the top two teams flipped in its publication. West and Elkhart are picked to finish in third and fourth place, while Whitney is fifth. Eustace is predicted to finish in sixth ahead of Groesbeck and Westwood. Following a state semifinalist finish, the Tigers are ranked No. 18 in the state out of the top 50 teams in 3A, Division I?play. This is the second publication that has Malakoff advancing to the Class 3A state playoffs. In District 6-3A,?Division I play, Kemp is picked to finish in fourth place. The top three teams are Sunnyvale, Grandview and Dallas Madison. Kemp was picked to finish in second place by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine. In District 8-4A, Division I, the Athens Hornets, Brownsboro Bears and Mabank Panthers are picked to finish at the bottom of the district. Athens is picked fifth, Brownsboro is sixth and Mabank is seventh. The four playoff teams in order of finish are Van, Kaufman, Terrell and Crandall. Van comes in ranked No. 8 in the top 25 from 4A, Division I teams. The Hornets were picked in the fifth spot by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine following a 2-8 season. Athens brings back 15 starters and 19 lettermen with six defensive starters from last year’s team. Brownsboro will look to improve on a 2-8 season, which was the sixth straight losing season for the football team. The Bears return 25 lettermen but will have to find a quarterback and a running back. The Panthers head into the year following a winless season last year and have only six wins since the 2011 season. First-year coach Daniel Pierce and the Cross Roads Bobcats are picked to finish in sixth place in District 10-2A, Division I play. The top four teams in each district advance to the playoffs. Friday Night Football does not predict Class A schools, but Trinidad was picked fourth by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.
